Advance Directives
As a home care provider, our purpose is to inform all adult clients
of their rights under North Carolina State Law to make and direct
decisions concerning medical care. This includes the right to formulate
Advance Directives such as Living Will and/or Advance Instruction
for Mental health treatment. This also includes the right to appoint
a health care power of attorney, and/or attorney-in-fact.
The agency will recognize all adult clients right under state law
to make decisions regarding medical care including the right to
accept or refuse medical treatment and the right to formulate advance
directive. The agency will not withhold care based on whether or
not the individual has an advance directive.
Home Care of the Carolinas will respect the content of the client's
advance directive. However, if the agency can not ethically agree
with the content of the advance directive, the client will be informed
and referred to another agency of his or her choice.
