Candidates for Home Health Care

Although care is available to people of all ages, statistics show that 67% of all home health patients are over the age of 65. Most home care patients have more than one complication or medical problem. These individuals may include:

  • Recovering Surgical Patients
  • New Mothers and Infants
  • Accident Victims
  • Disabled Elderly Patients
  • Recovering Stroke and Heart Attack Patients
  • Victims of Serious Illness
  • Terminally Ill Patients

Home health care is normally recommended by a physician, medical social worker, or hospital discharge planner. To receive home health care, a person must be essentially homebound, need skilled care, and have a physician who will prescribe and manage a treatment plan. If the patient is unable to do so, an individual, family member or friend may discuss what types of home health care services are available.
